From majestic choral singing to stunning illuminations, ice-skating at legendary buildings and sumptuous Christmas food markets. London has it all at Christmas time. Here’s a round up of our must-see attractions.

 

Carols at the Royal Albert Hall 

Once again, the Royal Albert Hall will host festive carol services, classical music and Christmas readings, all performed in mesmorising 18th-century costume. Where better to take part in a concert of seasonal classics than this candlelit concert hall?

Southbank Centre Winter Festival 

The Southbank is our first point of call in the Christmas season, and this year is set to be their biggest celebration to date. It runs until the 25th January 2017, so you’ve got plenty of time to enjoy the magical Christmas market with a wide range of festive produce and gift ideas.

The Little Matchgirl 

This magical and mysterious story, penned by Hans Christian Andersen, is one-to-watch this Christmas. It tells the story of a destitute heroine and her struggle for survival. Each match she strikes to keep warm conjures a new story. Suitable for children over nine-years-old.

Charles Dickens Museum 

This Dickensian museum comes in to its own at Christmas time. You wouldn’t expect any less from the creator of Scrooge and Marley, would you? The museum will be showcasing a variety of events from candlelit carol services to late night tours.

Christmas at Kew Gardens 

This botanical wonderland is a must-see this Christmas. As night falls, Kew Garden transforms into a festive grotto. Lit by thousands of Christmas lights, you are guided around the world-famous botanic gardens. Expect mulled wine, vintage rides, gift ideas and fantastic light shows. Open until 2nd January 2016 (5 – 11pm).

Ski Lodge, Montagu on the Gardens 

Once again, the Montagu on the Gardens brings its traditional Ski Lodge to Bloomsbury. You can sample some Alpine festive spirit this season, from falling snowflakes, reindeer, pine trees and piste maps. All you need to do is kick back and enjoy the mulled cider.

Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink 

Visit Hampton Court Palace and this wintry exercise is the perfect way to get you in the festive mood. It’s an unforgettable experience, as you ice-skate beside one of London’s most awe-inspiring backdrops. Arrive at night to see the 900-metre-square outdoor rink beautifully lit up. Available until the 8th January 2017.

The Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House 

London really does excel at Christmas. Not only can you ice-skate in front of virtually every iconic building in the capital, but you can also experience Tchaikovsky’s enchanting world of The Nutcracker. The Royal Ballet brings to life this famous score with breathtaking sets inspired by 19th-Century Christmas scenes. A must-see.
