Best Picnic Spots in London

While it’s fair to say the British weather is somewhat unpredictable, we won’t pass up an opportunity to head to a serene, scenic spot for a nibble on some sandwiches and a cold one. London has a host of parks and green spaces, perfect for a bit of al fresco dining. We’ve put together a list of the best places in The Capital to grab your picnic basket and head outdoors:

1. Victoria Park

Known as the ‘People’s Park’, Victoria Park, in the East End is one of London’s most spacious alfresco dining spots. Not only does it offer green space, but with two lakes, a Chinese Pagoda and a boating pond, it’s certain you will be eating with a view. The Old English Garden also offers a beautiful botanical spot where you can find a bench to perch on. Head to the Pavilion Cafe or The Hub to pick up some extra snacks along the way.

2. Primrose Hill

Primrose Hill is a popular picnic spot and with incredible views across the city, it’s not hard to see why. Trek to the top of the hill to dine in front of the London skyline. The peak of Primrose Hill is also a short walk from Camden Town, Regent’s Canal and London Zoo, meaning once you’ve packed up you can head out on an adventure to some of London’s most famous spots.

3. Hampstead Heath

One of the most popular spots for many Londoners when the weather starts heating up, Hampstead Heath boasts large open green spaces with room for everyone to picnic. Offering spectacular city views, meadows, and ancient woodland, it is the ideal place for a day surrounded by nature.  Head to the summit of Parliament Hill, where you can toast to the backdrop of the London skyline.

4. Holland Park

Holland Park offers an undeniably picturesque picnic spot. From woodland and wildlife at the entrance of the park to the TikTok-famous Japanese-style Kyoto Gardens, home to majestic peacocks. If you’re feeling sporty, there are tennis courts and football pitches so you can really work up your appetite before settling down for a bite to eat.

5. Greenwich Park

Greenwich boasts one of the city’s largest green spaces, perfect for finding a spot to lay your picnic blanket down. Not only that, The Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum both lie within the park, meaning once you’ve had your lunch you can experience an afternoon of cultural fun. Head to the top of the hill to experience iconic, insta-story worthy views of London from just outside the observatory.
