The Best Walks in Brighton & Hove

The Best Walks in Brighton & Hove

With the government’s lockdown rules relaxed, now is the perfect time to explore your local area and get some fresh air. We’ve rounded up some of the best walks in and around Brighton and Hove.

Devils Dyke

The area around Devil's Dyke is ideal for avid walkers. There are a host of walks for all abilities each of which take in beautiful views of the Sussex countryside. For a three-mile walk among ancient chalk downland, you could try the Chasam Explorer, or for more experienced walkers the Ditchling Beacon to Devil's Dyke is a 7 mile route along the South Downs Way.

The Undercliff Walk

The Undercliff Walk is an exhilarating coastal walk starting at Brighton Marina. The path runs for about 3 miles along the sea wall with the wonderful white cliffs on one side and the shingle beach and sea on the other. It ends at the Brighton & Hove City boundary at Saltdean, marked by the last rock groyne.

Stanmer Park

For beautiful woodland walks and extensive open lands, Stanmer Park, north-east of Brighton, is perfect for an invigorating walk overlooking the South Downs. The park is home to a varied range of and wildlife, including buzzards and deer, as well as a historic country house dating back to the 13th century.

Brighton to Newhaven

For a full day out and a 9-mile route, the Brighton to Newhaven walk is highly recommended. The clifftop path passes along the sea wall and offers spectacular views of the white cliffs and the sea. This fairly flat walk follows a traffic free path along the National Cycle network route 2, making it a great cycle as well.

Hangleton Manor Walk

This moderate walk starts in Hangleton and heads towards the South Downs around Hove, and explores the Benfield Hill Nature Reserve. It starts and ends at Hangleton Manor, a Grade II listed pub, and the perfect spot for a celebratory pint when pubs re-open.

Brighton Street Art

If you don’t fancy getting muddy and want to stick to street walking, Brighton itself has plenty to offer. While most attractions are currently closed, you can still explore stunning and original graffiti artwork dotted around the city. From Banksy's 'Kissing Policemen' near Brighton station, to the giant blue fire-breathing dragon by Odisy, there is much to take in.
