With the government’s lockdown rules relaxed, now is the perfect time to explore your local area and get some fresh air. We’ve rounded up some of the best walks in East London.

 

Stoke Newington to Hackney Wick

With a route that tracks the River Lea and crosses through the nature reserve at Springfield Park, this relatively short and easy stroll is perfect for those who love the water. The walk also takes in plenty of history and wildlife as it traces the expansion of Stoke Newington over the last 150 years. 

 

North Greenwich to Blackheath Walk

Starting at the Millennium Dome, this walk follows the river past Greenwich Yacht Club and continues onto the Thames Barrier. Totalling 8.5 miles, the walk combines riverside and park views, with some short stepped climbs in Maryon Park.

 

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford is home to hundreds of acres of parkland and a selection of dedicated trails. To relive and celebrate the 2012 Olympics, the London 2012 trail will take you around all of the sporting venues, while the Parkland and Wildlife trail explores the biodiversity that the park has to offer. 

 

Victoria Park 

Victoria Park is currently closed, however Whether you want to get active in the outdoors or take a leisurely stroll around the beautiful flower gardens, Victoria park has plenty of activities to choose from. The 213-acre boat shaped park is open all year round and features impressive lakes, playgrounds, cricket pitches and tennis courts.


The Lea Valley Walk

For a lengthy 15-mile walk from the Thames to Waltham Abbey, the Lea Valley Walk opens up a fascinating window on Britain’s past. You can choose to walk the full distance in one or take it in easy stages – the nearby railway runs parallel to the river, so it’s easy join or leave the walk at different points.

 

The Jubilee Greenway

Starting in central London, this walk heads East towards the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic venues, and takes in several tourist attractions such as Kensington Palace and Buckingham Palace. Be warned; this walk is 35 miles in length, so take it in stages.
