Christmas lights in London

Tis the season to enjoy the best Christmas lights that London has on offer.

London comes into its own at Christmas time. There's nothing better than wandering round the stylishly lit streets on a crisp winter's evening. With this in mind, here are our recommendations of the best places to visit.

Carnaby Street

This year, Carnaby has embraced its peace and love roots. The street renowned for dressing mods and hippies alike has gone all revolutionary on us. And we like it. Walk beneath the impactful neon lights inspired by the new V&A exhibition, ‘You Say You Want a Revolution?’.

Harrods

This world-renowned department store certainly knows how to celebrate Christmas, and we're not just talking about its famous grotto. Each year the Knightsbridge institution showcases a beautiful and tasteful light display. One not to miss.

Regent Street

If you're looking for a big hitter in the Christmas light game, but want something slightly less frenetic than Oxford Street. This year’s the Regent Street Christmas lights are the most ambitious to date, and have been named as the largest illuminations in Central London. The ‘Spirit of Christmas’ theme showcases large-scale angels whose wingspan top 17 metres.

Hampstead Village

Escape central London for one of the capital's most beautiful villages. Hampstead certainly know how to put on a good show with an elegant display. Top off the night with a mulled wine beside an open fire in one of Hampstead's welcoming pubs.

Trafalgar Square

Since 1947, the Norwegians have gifted London with a beautiful fir tree each Christmas. It acts as a thank you for Britain’s support during the war, and has legendary status. The gift sits pride of pace in the centre of Trafalgar Square and is often surrounded by carol singers.

Marylebone Village

This is a real Central London gem. Stroll down this picturesque high street in December and you're privy to one of the most sophisticated displays. It’s a real community event, as residents and local businesses alike work together to host.

Covent Garden

It wouldn't be Christmas without strolling around Covent Garden at night, sampling its glamorous decorations. This year is no different, as they’ll have their legendary Christmas tree on display, featuring over 80,000 pea lights and 40 mistletoe chandeliers. Majestic.

St Christopher's Place

This place is a beautiful pocket that sits perpendicular to Oxford Street. It's the perfect refuge away from the hustle and bustle of London's main shopping street. This year is paying homage to all things glitzy, with a plethora of fairy lights, disco balls and bejwelled dancers.
