EDITOR’S PICK

Blue Nile

This Eritrean restaurant often graces the top of the TripAdvisor leader board. Yes, you heard correctly. This modest eatery regularly beats thousands of top London restaurants to earn the title of the “best restaurant in London”. It serves delicious Eritrean food, including stews, lentil dishes and freshly cooked injera bread. Make a beeline to Woolwich to try it for yourself.

Goddard’s at Greenwich

This family run pie and mash shop is a Greenwich institution. If you’re in the area, it’s not to be missed. Fresh pies are made daily and include such favourites as steak and kidney, chicken and mushroom and traditional minced beef. There’s also the veggie soya pie, if you’re not a meat and two veg kinda guy/gal.

Black Vanilla

Buongiorno regazzi, it’s ice-cream time! As if you needed persuading? Venture to Black Vanilla for a taste of Italian gelato. Freshly made each day on site, and with a plethora of mouth-watering flavours to choose from. Friendly assistants are on hand to offer samples and recommendations. We love nothing more than the more-ish salted caramel.

Bianco43

This easy-going Italian is our go-to for authentic wood oven pizzas. The bases are thin and flavoursome with a trademark char, and the milky mozzarella is worth writing home to mamma about. There are some great offers to enjoy here, from £5 selected pizzas and pastas on Mondays, to weekday lunches for £10.90 (two courses).
