New Year’s Eve in London

New Year’s Eve in London

Stuck for New Year's Eve inspiration? Here's our round-up of the best events in the capital.

There’s a trick to having a great New Year’s Eve and it’s all in the planning. However, your luck is in as there are some fantastic celebrations happening in the capital to see in the New Year.

Fireworks on Parliament Hill

Forget joining the heavy throngs on the Southbank for the annual fireworks display. The savvy thing to do is talk a wintry stroll to a viewpoint overlooking the rest of London and watch very smugly there. Parliament Hill is the perfect spot for doing just this.

Address: Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath

Price: Admission Free

Take in an early evening screening

Transport yourself to the Big Apple with this cult-classic. The Prince Charles Cinema is showing When Harry Met Sally on New Year’s Eve at 6.30pm. Join Harry and, erm, Sally, for this legendary love story (and scene). Plus, if that’s not enough, you’ll be handed a free sparkling wine and party popper on entry. Hurray!

Address: Prince Charles Cinema, 7 Leicester Place, WC2H 7BY

Price: £8.50 for members, £11 for non-members

Reach for the sky

If you’re looking for a room with a view and celebrations like no other, then Sky Garden is the place for you. This fantastic venue boasts some of the most incredible views of the city, so you’ll be able to see the fireworks in style. Not only that, they’re hosting a dazzling 1920s themed New Year’s Eve party, complete with staging, drinks and a live band to match.

Address: 20 Fenchurch Street, EC3M 8AF

Price: Ticket prices vary. Visit site for more details.

Meet the body snatchers

If you’re more of an early bird than a night owl, then this is the perfect New Year’s event for you. This Sensational Smithfield walking tour takes places at 11am, and shows you a different side to your favourite meat market. You’ll find out about body snatchers and ghosts, its gruesome past, as well as the films that were set here.

Address: Barbican Tube Station, Aldersgate Street, EC1A 4JA

Price: Adults, £10; concessions, £8

A spot of art

If your partying days are long behind you, but you don’t fancy a sedate New Year’s Eve, then this may be just the thing for you. You’ll still be guaranteed a thought-provoking, boundary-pushing, and sometimes shocking affair. The Turner Prize is the hot ticket this festive season.

Address: Tate Britain, Millbank, SW1P 4RG

Price: Members, free; adults, £12; concessions, £10.50; U12s, free

Triple axle your way into the New Year

If you’re looking at entertaining children this NYE, then why not treat them to a spot of ice-skating? Plus, it will help them burn off all the selection box-fueled energy.  They can skate against the backdrop of this beautiful 18th Century courtyard within Somerset House, while you can enjoy afternoon tea at the Fortnum’s Lodge.

Address: Somerset House, Strand, WC2R 1LA

Price: Prices vary, check website for details

Spend the night with angels

Throw yourself into 2017 with a bang. When will you get the chance to sway along to Angels with your fellow Londoners on New Year’s Eve? As you may have guessed, Robbie Williams is hosting a must-see NYE concert this year at Central Hall Westminster. He’ll be rocking Big Ben!
