The 5 Must-Visit Coffee Shops in Hackney

The 5 Must-Visit Coffee Shops in Hackney

We’ve spent the summer scouring the internet for outdoor seating, braved the rain at rooftop bars, and huddled together in pub gardens. The summer of al fresco drinking is almost over, and as Autumn approaches it’s time to switch from our summer settings to cosy mode.

We’ve put together a list of our favourite coffee shops and cafes in Hackney, so you know exactly where to go for your next caffeine fix or remote working session.

1. Palm Vaults

Alongside your classic coffee order, Palm Vaults offers lattes of the beetroot, blue algae, and charcoal variety. They even introduced glitter lattes to East London. The famous pink interior is like popping out for coffee while wearing literally rose-tinted glasses, perfect for an Instagram post. Everything on the menu is vegetarian, with endless dairy-free and gluten-free options.

2. Hackney Coffee Co

The stunning plant-filled period building boasts a growing roster of exciting chef residencies from Michelin-trained chefs, alongside seasonally changing cocktails and the best coffee in East London. Everything in their East London location, from the bar and the light fittings to the furniture, has been repurposed to give it a unique and special decor.

3. Thingy

Thingy is a small, independent cafe tucked away in Hackney Wick. Their cosy indoor space leads out to a hidden, leafy garden through giant bi-folding doors. Their rotating menu consists of things like vegan masala, brownies, Caribbean mac & cheese, kimchi toasties & more.

4. E5 Bakehouse

The e5 Bakehouse is an independent, organic bakery in a spruced up railway arch beneath London Fields Station. Everything on the menu showcases their passion for artisan methods and organic local products.  They are committed to locally sourcing produce for the cafe, so all of the vegetables, fruit, meat and dairy used is organic, seasonal and supplied by local producers.

5. The Barge House

The Barge House sits on Regents Canal near Haggerston. The floor-to-ceiling windows let the light flood in, passers-by on the towpath will envy you and your mighty breakfast. This cult favourite cafe is known for its hollowed-out loaves of bread.
