If you’re a food lover, then you’ll be in paradise in Hackney. What Hackney really excels at is those atmospheric neighbourhood restaurants/cafes that are buzzing with life and soul. Plus, the food’s not half bad either.

EDITOR’S PICK

Lardo

This restaurant is a firm favourite. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to put it forward as being one of the best restaurants in the capital. The space is atmospheric, there’s a real buzz amongst the clientele, the staff are informative and friendly, and the food sublime.

Address: 197-201 Richmond Road, E8 3NJ

Telephone: 020 8985 2683

Buen Ayre

Buen Ayre is a red meat-lovers dream. It’s an authentic Argentine steakhouse, which sits in the heart of Broadway Market. Our tip: amble alongside Regent’s Canal Saturday mid-morning, sample culinary delights from Broadway Market food stalls, finally, drop by for a hearty lunch of steak accompanied by a glass of Malbec. Delicioso.

Address: 50 Broadway Market, London E8 4QJ

Telephone: 0207 275 9900

E5 Bakehouse

Life really doesn’t get any better than a warm loaf of Hackney wild sourdough bread. In fact, it’s so good that we would happily eat it all day, every day. However, if you like a bit more variety in your diet then these master bakers also sell delicious cakes, pizzas, sandwiches, breakfasts and hot meals. Don’t miss out.

Address: Arch 395, Mentmore Terrace, E8 3PH

Telephone: 0208 986 9600

Violet

Keeping with the baking theme, Violet Cakes on Wilton Way is an absolute must-visit for sweet lovers. It’s filled to the brim with outstanding cakes, pastries, biscuits, buns…well, you get the picture. Their cakes taste as good as they look, and that’s a high accolade.

Floyd’s on the Lane

Eating at Floyd’s feels like a fantastic discovery. It’s a discreet and cosy restaurant situated on Shacklewell Lane in Dalston, where food is at the heart of what they do. It’s the perfect place to enjoy an evening with a close circle of friends. Plus, the cocktails are great.

The Hackney Pearl

Situated in Hackney Wick, this has long been a firm favourite with the local arts crowd. The Hackney Pearl has a cool and relaxed atmosphere. It’s a perfect location for enjoying one of their delicious locally supplied dishes and a pint, from their wide selection of craft ale.
