Right to Acquire

If you are a current Southern Housing tenant, you may be eligible to buy your home through the Right to Acquire scheme.

Eligible tenants can receive a discount of between £9,000 and £16,000, depending on the borough you live in.

Eligibility criteria

You’ll usually need to meet all of the following:

  • Have an assured tenancy
  • Have been a public sector tenant for at least 3 years
  • Your home was built or funded after 1 April 1997
  • Your home is not scheduled for demolition
  • You are not bankrupt and do not have a bankruptcy petition pending
  • You do not have any outstanding possession orders

 

Important to know

If you sell your home within 5 years of purchase, you’ll need to repay some or all of the discount.
